Jack Ketchum began the Dead River series, set in the small coastal town of Dead River, Maine, with his first published novel, Off Season (1980). The only other titles in the Dead River series are Offspring (1991) and The Woman (2010), although his short story - Winter Child (2006) - is linked to the series: it fills the gap between Off Season and Offspring.
